Last November, we had the honor of hosting the world-renowned guest expert Elaine Gallagher at our institute. Under the title "MAKING AN IMPACT: How English Teachers Can Positively Influence & Support Their Students," bilingual teaching staff and language department members from our institute, as well as several bilingual program coordinators, English teachers, and CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) teachers from Los Remedios Institute, José Ramón Sánchez Primary School, and Fernando de los Ríos Primary School, invited by El Astillero High School, participated in this 2-session workshop held in the library and classrooms of El Astillero High School.
This workshop, attended by around thirty participants in an intimate setting, aimed to expand and improve techniques and activities for learning English as a foreign language and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). Participants worked on key aspects such as Classroom Management, Lesson Planning, CLIL and English Language Teaching (ELT) Strategies.
At 81 years old, with an energy and vitality that many of us would envy, and an unbeatable sense of humor, the speaker, Elaine Gallagher, used PowerPoint slides to visualize the concepts to be covered, seeking active participation from the attendees. She kept them engaged throughout the workshop with her continuous jokes, countless anecdotes, and engaging language, making CLIL concepts easy to understand and implement.
Part of the Erasmus KA122 project "A Bilingual Push Towards the Future," which initiated the initiative and funded by the Torrelavega CEP (Teacher Training Center), without whose help and collaboration in organizing, this workshop would not have been possible. We want to extend special thanks for their support to Javier Barbero, director of the Torrelavega CEP, a great professional and an even better person, who made this unforgettable experience a reality.
